One great reason to hire an interior designer is to help a brand new space feel like it has been furnished over time and give it a “collected” feeling. The bachelor owner of this brand new two-bedroom apartment in Manhattan was looking for a bold, luxurious home, so he enlisted Jodi Berger with JLA Designs. Based in Washington, DC, Jodi has earned a stellar reputation for blending bold and beautiful to create homes with a timeless quality.
“The client was trusting of our vision and allowed us to be adventurous with colors, patterns and textures, which in the end paid off”, says Jodi.
Like many bachelors, one key ingredient in this apartment is electronics. Working large-scale TVs into a space has its challenges.
“Focusing on layout, we first made sure there was enough room for the client’s big screen TV. The designated living room space had no wall with floor to ceiling windows, so we flipped the floor plan to ensure the TV would be appropriately spaced near a large seating area.”
Next up was making the most of a small, open floorpan. “To achieve a luxurious yet cozy look we used a mix of warm and cool color tones while mixing in gold and brass accents. Punches of bold colors are brought in through textiles and artwork, while creating dimension throughout the open layout.”

In the small entry, a slim, simple console is offset by bold contemporary artwork and a traditional mirror. The use of old and new elements “creates dimension and layers within any space.”
“Our goal is to create a balanced, functional and luxurious design, while reflecting the clients’ individual and unique personalities.”
A bold area rug by Stark grounds the living area and adds a graphic element to the glamorous space.
Dark, sleek cabinets in the kitchen have the feel of furniture and help the space harmonize with the living area. The large island provides ample prep space without feeling intrusive.
Gold metallic touches like the Global Views bookcase and Regina Andrew bar cart add sparkle and shine in the light-filled space.
Maxime Dining Chairs: Jonathan Adler
A gorgeous chandelier by Dutton Brown floats over the glass-topped Nuevo dining table. The use of these downsized and airy elements help the small dining area feel spacious and comfortable.
Today, graphic design plays a key component in the practice of interior design. Without graphic design, we would not have the benefit or ability to visualize, understand design concepts, or communicate with other parties involved within the project. Jodi Berger
