Homepolish is part of a new trend in interior design; it’s a website that matches clients with talented designers who fit their aesthetic and design needs at a transparent hourly rate. Designer Shannon Tate-Giordano was matched with a couple near Boston who wanted to update their living room. Says Shannon, “They wanted a fun, colorful, eclectic space. I have to say, this project was outside of where I usually go with design….but I’m always excited by a challenge and opportunity to stretch myself and learn something new.

“The clients wanted to incorporate used items when possible, so we were scouring craigslist and Chairish for items and found a few and lost a few in the process. After losing a few items we fell in love with (because that’s how it goes on those sites!) we decided that I would make some of the decor myself, some pillows and art, and we would source the rest through companies aligned with their aesthetic.”

The result of Shannon’s collaboration with her clients is a comfortable, yet polished space. The light walls and curtains create the perfect backdrop for bold pops of color and an eclectic mix of styles from contemporary to bohemian.

Define who you are as a person…find a few adjectives and ask yourself if you feel your home reflects that. Shannon Tate-Giordano

The modern chairs with faux sheepskin covers bring a bohemian element to the design. Adding a coat of dark gray paint to the fireplace creates a more updated, contemporary quality to the room.

Bio:

Born to a large family of artists, Shannon was raised in Long Island and has been creating art of one kind or another for as far back as she can remember. After high school, she studied interior design in New York City for two years and went on to study acting, fine art, English, the healing arts, and business (Can you say Renaissance woman?).

One of the biggest influences on her aesthetic was her father’s passion and interest in Native American culture, design, and history. Many summers were spent going on cross-country road trips, exploring the West, finding new treasures to bring home, and spending time on reservations with elders, who taught her family about their art. The experiences left her with a deep love of tribal patterns and décor that has meaning and history. Throughout the years, Shannon developed her own style and worked in fine art, fashion, jewelry, and furniture refurbishment. Her varied interests and skills continue to serve her on her projects.
