A hugely popular online discount shop, Nordstrom Rack/Hautelook offers incredible deals on trendy clothing, accessories, kids toys and clothing, home goods and beauty products. I may or may not check their sales on a daily basis – the deals are just that good!

As an online shopping destination known for its stylish selections, it would only make sense that they would have an office space to match! And that’s where Sayre Ziskin of SVZ Interior Design came in. Sayre partnership began during the latter part of construction to add some life to the downtown LA headquarters through colorful, contemporary furnishings, eclectic decor and fun artwork!

The end result is a vibrant Cali Cool workspace with a bunch of funky seating areas, graphic wall treatments, and dynamic conference rooms.

“We really focused on going slightly girly but not over-the-top with pinks, golds, lucite and pretty pastel accents,” says Sayre. “The space feels light and airy with interesting vignettes in conference rooms and random corners.”

“The art selected was tongue-in-cheek with a nod toward the fashion industry.”

How do you approach the design of an office space differently from a residence?

“When designing a commercial space there is a set budget and timeline, which is great to work with. Knowing this, there is a level of organization and coordination that goes beyond a typical residential home design project.”

The fun, graphic wall coverings fabricated by Hautelook’s in-house graphic design team add a touch of whimsy to certain spaces throughout the office.

Were there any challenges during the design process and how did you over come them?

“The furnishings and fixtures all have to be durable, or commercial grade so that they can stand the test of time. It can be difficult to find these items ready-made that don’t look like industrial office furniture. Sourcing that scale of furnishings was a tough job.”

What’s your favorite space in this project and why?

“I personally love the lounge area near the dining zone. The sofas and banquette were all designed by SVZ and we really set the space off with a cool translucent wall, as well as some fun marquee letters with the company’s initials.”

Meet the designer Sayre Victoria Ziskin of SVZ Interior Design
Bio:

SVZ Interior Design has been up and running since 2012 and was founded by LA native Sayre Victoria Ziskin. During the last 6 years the boutique firm has established a following in San Francisco and recently opened a second office there. The firm has a wide array of projects from large-scale offices to trendy cocktail bars to high-end homes.

Sayre Victoria Ziskin has a background in fine arts and commercial advertising. She studied literature in London, received her BA at UC Santa Barbara and honed her artistic and intrinsic interior design skills at UCLA. She refined her ability by working for a high-end residential designer in LA before starting her own firm in 2010. As Principal designer, Sayre not only places importance on the aesthetic outcome of each project, she always put her clients’ needs first and foremost.

Sayre’s design sensibility reconciles eclectic, bohemian details and patterns with clean, modern lines. While no two SVZ designs are precisely the same, each project is tethered together by Sayre’s signature ability to infuse classic design with unexpected subtleties and creative solutions for every project.

What is your Modern Sanctuary? What space brings you peace, comfort and joy?
Sayre's modern sanctuary is without hesitation, her home. Travel is important for inspiration, but for Sayre her journey starts with a place to call home.
