This apartment in Melbourne, Australia makes the most of its proximity to the Yarra River and surrounding bushland. The expansive treetop view creates the feeling of living in a very comfortable and stylish tree house. Designer Aaron Wong of Alexander Pollock, carefully integrated this lush outdoor environment in the interior design, with colors mirroring the river bank palette.
The young client craved a retreat from her hectic life, but also wanted the space to be a gathering place for family and friends. Wong took on this challenge filling the open floor plan with quiet furnishings and making the most of a large deck for outdoor entertaining.
There is plenty of seating in the living area to accommodate guests. Wong also focused on comfort, creating several places to curl up and enjoy the view.
Tactile textures in the form of linen and leather fabrics, grasscloth wallpaper, jute rugs and wood floors enhance the natural feel of the apartment and coordinate with its setting.
The relatively dark dining space was brightened with a light palette, airy dining table and distinctive lighting.
The master bedroom opens to the large balcony and takes advantage of the gorgeous view. The graphic wallpaper treatment behind the bed brings the outdoor colors into the room.
One thing that attracted the twenty-something client to this apartment was the large bedroom closet, something missing from her prior studio.
We think Wong struck the perfect balance in this apartment – calm yet stylish, private yet suited for entertaining and an ideal blend of indoor and outdoor living.
