Born and raised in Italy, interior designer Benni Amadi brings her worldly design eye to each and every one of her projects. And her San Francisco-based home that she shares with her husband and dogs Marlo and Giuno is no different! With its mix of mid-century and modern furnishings, and global decor from her and her husband’s travels against a bright and airy backdrop, Benni describes her home style as “Nordic…with pops of color”.
Vintage textiles, unique artwork, statement lighting, and touches of greenery add warmth to the open floor plan and make for a beautifully collected home.
Vintage Anne Arnold safari chairs, a custom coffee table and an Organic Modernism console seamlessly come together in Benni’s eclectic living room.
The photographs above the console by Lyle Owerko depicting the Samburu tribe carry out the global theme of this space.
My philosophy is ‘livable design’. I always design thinking who will live in the space and what their needs are.

Were there any challenges during the design process and how did you overcome them?
“We have a couple of weird big blocks where our building’s stairs are. These were a real design challenge. After thinking about endless options I settled for a display of many different cactus plants and now I love it.”
Gray cabinets and a gorgeous Carrara marble waterfall island make quite a statement in the kitchen.
Originally yellow bamboo, Benni had the flooring switched out for this white-washed reclaimed barn wood.
In the powder room, this bold Eskayel wallpaper adds vibrancy to the small space.
The gray from the kitchen cabinets is carried through to the wall of closet doors.
The gas fireplace and reading chair is a cozy addition to the space.
What is your Modern Sanctuary? What space brings you peace, comfort, and joy?
“Definitely the master bathroom. I redesigned it so that two people can easily get ready at the same time – e.g., double shower, double sink. It has the perfect lighting and the tiles from Clé Tile just make me so happy!”
The guest bedroom is a welcoming space with pretty pops of color.
Benni was able to create a stunning yet welcoming home through her thoughtful design decisions and personal touches.
